IF NIGERIA MUST ARISE #IfNigeriaMustArise

Arise O compatriots, our mouths have echoed for decades,
But if Nigeria must arise, If Nigeria Must Arise
It must arise with electricity
States must seek to generate their own electricity from geothermal, wind, solar, hydropower and other renewable sources which all beg for exploitation all over the land
Governments must realize that the coming of electricity will put many people out of business, thousands of their staff would be rendered jobless and families of patriots will be thrown into hunger and despair. These great citizens, who have ensured that Nigerians have had some reprieve from the dungeon-like darkness that successive governments have plunged the nation into with sporadic electricity supply, are stakeholders in any matter of electricity. These people by the importation of electric power generators have helped us to see light. They will need to be carried along in the provision of constant electricity. These citizens must be given pragmatic, on-the-table participation in the provision of electricity along with a mutually agreed timeline to bring their importation and sales business to a fine historic close.
If Nigeria must arise, would there not need to be a drastic review in the salaries and allowances of all political office holders?  Would it not be grand if the monies that they would have earned are used to build roads and hospitals and subsidized housing in the constituencies that they represent? For, Nigeria cannot arise as long as political offices are the most lucrative positions in our nation. If the salaries of government officials were reviewed to match those of the oil and gas workers for instance, people will no longer seek political offices for monetary gains, people will no longer kill and maim and rig elections in order to gain political seats. People will seek such offices because they want to demonstrate to us that they are good leaders, people will seek such offices because they want to demonstrate that they love their people, people will seek such offices because they want to leave a legacy for generations unborn.
They cannot claim to love Nigeria and Nigerians who earn millions of naira weekly from being in governance while majority of the rest of the population languishes in avoidable poverty
If this nation must arise
Never again should anyone be allowed to enter into a seat of government with 4 million naira in their bank accounts only to spend 4 years doing little or nothing for the citizens and then leave office with 4 billion naira in the bank. This abomination must stop if this country must arise…
…If we must arise
Then the people must become the government. For, if democracy is the government of the people, then the people who are the government in a democracy must have continuous say in governance
If this country must arise
Governors must grow the economies of their State and they are more than able to do it. If Nigeria must arise, then all governors must enter into a healthy competition of trying to outdo their counterparts in neighboring States in the creation of enabling environments for investors to setup multiple manufacturing companies (national and multinational) that will employ hundreds of citizens.
A governor is a chief executive officer whose company is the state and whose only interest and hobby, is the expansion of the state’s infrastructure, industries and intellect and thus the workforce and thus the welfare and thus the happiness of the people under his or her governance
If we must arise
We must all continually speak against evil in all its ramifications
For a silent good man is as dangerous as a noisy bad one
If Nigeria must arise
Then common citizens must arise above greed, tribalism and injustice in the market places, in universities, on the streets, in artisan workshops, in hospitals, in offices, in vehicle licensing offices, on the waterways, in tax offices, in board meetings, in customs offices, on the highways and in airports.
Citizens who despise governments for stealing from the masses should not steal from other citizens themselves
And as Benson Idahosa said, “If you don’t listen to the suggestions of evil, it will never give you direction”
If this nation must arise, then there must be a program of multiple projects, completely devoid of selfish gains, geared to better the lot of our apparently disabled brothers and sisters.
If we must arise, then tens of psychiatric hospitals, equipped with state of the heart facilities must be built all over the nation to carter for our mentally plagued fellow citizens who roam the streets without help
If Nigeria must arise
Corruption must not be applauded and decorated
Oppression must not be promoted and celebrated
Aggression must not be propagated and defended
And the voice of the people must not be underrated or depreciated
If this nation must arise, there must be a day…
There is no argument that it is very hard to meet a Nigerian who does not believe that there is a Supreme God Who made the worlds. So if we are a people who believe in the Creator, where is our national day of prayer and thanksgiving? A day, a national public holiday, a day when citizens stop to ask the Supreme One to intervene in our nation’s affairs, a day that closes with thanksgiving for the things that He has done? If Nigeria must arise, there must be one such day every year…
… I am not a pessimist
I am opulently optimistic
I look ahead and I see a future of hope unashamed
I gaze at the horizon and I behold a day in the distance
A day so far but yet so near
A day when all of the company of patriots will arise and raise their voices with passion and purpose, with power and precision of soul, with integrity and gravity, and sing jubilantly, that great anthem of the Republic
Arise O compatriots, Nigeria’s call obey
And when we close with that great line of freedom; yes when we close with that great line of freedom

One nation bound in freedom

Freedom bound but yet free
Freedom bound but not with the chains of corruption nor with the shackles of segregation, nepotism or tribalism neither with the thorns of fanaticism and groundless enthusiasm
But a freedom bound with the hospitality of peace and with the tranquility of unity.

Yes when we close with that great line of freedom, freedom truly will ring all over the land that houses the world’s most populous black nation…For Nigeria will arise…
